Basis and Superstructure

Notions of historical materialism. Basis is the totality of the historically determined production relations underlying superstructure. Superstructure is the totality of the ideological relations and views—politics, law, morality, religion, philosophy, art—and the organizations and institutions corresponding to them (the state, parties, church, etc.).
